This past month I found Merritt’s Pasture on the Morgan Creek Trail in Chapel Hill by highway 54. Phuong and her son met me at Merritt’s Pasture for a late afternoon outdoor family photo session. The Morgan Creek Trail took us from the parking lot to the bottom of the pasture on the western side. The walk from the car led us .8 of a mile along the curving sidewalk trail.

The bottom of Merritt’s Pasture sat in the shade of the wooded areas along the creek on the western and southern side giving us lots of areas of even filtered sunlight. As you venture up the hill of the pasture you find lots of tall weeded grasses on either side of the dirt path that help filter and soften the brighter sunlight as you come out of the shade. We didn’t even need to venture to the top of the hill. Merritt’s Pasture has lots of great features for photo sessions if you don’t mind the walk required to arrive there.
